Generally, split ends occur when the ends of our hair get damaged and there is simple science behind it and that is when our protective layer (cuticle that is the outer layer of hair) of hair get damaged, it exposes the hair’s inner cortex and this makes the hair more susceptible to split ends. Generally, split ends are more common in those who have longer hair. It increases frizz and make brushing uncomfortable and causes further damaging to hair. There are different types of splitting hair and they have different reasons for it. For treating splitting hair, it is important to know about the and the cause of split ends to deal with it. Split ends hair look like damaged one. It has two or more sections at the ends of hair that resembles like the shape of  V and Y.  It never feels smooth even difficult to style and detangle them.

·         Double split ends- It is the most common one and it occurs due to damage on the outermost layer of hair

·         Partial split ends- It happens due to minor split of hair.

·         Tree split ends- In this, hair strands have more split ends just like branches of a tree. It is the worst condition while facing splitting hair problems.

·         Folk split ends- Like its name denotes, in this condition hair have 3 split ends.

It is important to treat your hair gently no matter how often you cut your hair but if you are not giving proper care to your hair then split ends will come again. There are many factors that cause split ends

·         Chemical Damage – Products that we are using like shampoos, gels , dyes, and other one have filled with many chemicals and these chemicals can break  strength of hair strands and make them prone to  split ends.

·         Heat- while we use straightner or dryer no matter what their type is, they decompose the proteins (keratin, fibrous and helical) that exists in hair structure.

·         Friction- Rubbing hair while using towel can cause split ends even when we sleep our hair rubs with the pillow that also causes damage to our hair.

·         Improper hair brushing- It is very Important to handle your hair with gentleness. while our hair are wet, they are more fragile even when they dry it is difficult to detangle them due to this more friction occurs and this results in split ends.

·         Dehydration- Like our body our hair also needs hydration if it is not then our hair will become dull and dry and it causes breakage, split ends and loss of hair.

·         Environmental changes- It also plays an important part in causing split ends. Heat during the summer season along with pollution and dirt affects your hair follicle and brings you hair problems.

 

  How to prevent Split ends?

Regular hair care for ending splitting hair is required. Mostly people when they are dealing with it do nothing just to cut their hair or trim them but if you are not taking proper care of them, split ends will come again and all your efforts will go in vain.

Here are some tips that can help you to deal with this problem.

·         Wash your hair gently or properly.

·         Hydrate your hair and for that you can drink plenty of water, can use hair mask that can lock moisture in your hair.

·         Avoid heating your hair because it can lead your hair to dryness which makes them more fragile than usual and if necessary then use hair protecting spray before straightening it.

·         Avoid over-brushing because it allows more friction in your hair.

·         Use satin or silk instead of cotton pillow.

·         Detangle your hair gently after they dry up and always detangle your hair slowly from bottom to top.

·         After washing hair always remember that you should be gentler to your hair than usual because at that time they are more tend to lose their grip.

·         Add some gap between your hair treatment like coloring and perming.

·         Use hair mask that can lock moisture in your hair.

·         oil your hair because it locks moisture and prevent your hair from damage.

·         You can use conditioner, it can provide moisture and nourishment to your hair.

·          Do keratin (protein) treatments, it will make your hair look more shiny and straight and provide nourishment and moisture.

·         Hair is older at the end that’s why we should trim our hair timely if you are not trimming your hair it will become damaged.

·         Look for those oiling products that contain ingredients like coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil.
